Angry Cochineal

Hi Tony,

Shopping for yoghurt fills me with despair!

Too many red fruit yoghurts are coloured with cochineal - surely the manufacturers could find an alternative or better still, leave artificial colourant out altogether?

One has to look on every individual pot in assorted multi-packs for the vegetarian symbol, as some flavours in these mixed packs are not suitable for vegetarians due to the added cochineal colouring.

I have written to one large manufacturer about this irritation and they gave an assurance that they are looking for natural alternatives to cochineal.

If you buy soya yoghurt, then since it's primarily aimed at vegans you'll know that it isn't going to contain bug-blood.

It's good stuff !

My favourites are the smooth-tasting Oy! range, and the delicious black cherry Alpro soyoghurts.
