| There are a number of ways in which
you can assist the campaign:
Become a member
Although it may sound obvious, it is still an important step. Every
member we have increases our credibility with businesses, politicians
and the media. It is completely free and quick to join, so register
now!
Sign up your family and friends
If you are passionate enough to join the campaign, then you are
almost certainly passionate enough to convince someone of the importance
of the campaign. Try to find out which aspect might interest other
people the most, whether it is animal welfare, organic farming,
allergies or the environment.
Got any specialist skills or knowledge?
We are always looking for people with experience in writing, newspapers,
television, animal welfare, research, farming, restaurants, business,
law, accounting, organisation, design and PR. If you would like
to offer occasional assistance in any of these fields, please do
get in touch. Also, if you feel that you have something to offer
that we haven’t considered, don’t be afraid to ask!
Lobby your local eateries
Presumably your interest in the campaign is strongly related to
your local restaurants and cafes, so why not start there? Download
and print off the leaflets and letters provided in the Downloads
section (there are easy to follow instructions) and take these down
to your favourite cafes, pubs and restaurants.
Start or join a local group
If you are feeling a little isolated, you can gain some support
by either joining or forming a local group. This is a great way
to make some new friends and share ideas and experiences. Don’t
forget to tell us if you have formed a new group and we can provide
you with a webpage for your group containing some details and contact
information.
Town centre leafleting
Consumer pressure is the best way to encourage businesses to make
the switch, which means we need lots of members. Why not try handing
out some leaflets in your town centre on a Saturday, or at a local
car boot sale? Just a handful of extra people can make a huge difference
to your local campaign.
Write to your local newspaper
Letters pages provide an excellent opportunity to get the message
out there.
Write to your MP and MEPs
The campaign will be lobbying MPs and MEPs for their assistance,
but pressure from their constituents will help to nudge them in
the right direction.
Door to door leafleting
If you are feeling energetic you could try some door to door leafleting.
This is the best way to get blanket coverage of an area. You will
be guaranteed to get a few responses, but it can be a lot of effort
and isn’t as sociable as town centre or car boot leafleting.
Help with fundraising
Rather than asking members directly for money, we have a number
of schemes that you could use to assist us. For example, if you
are intending to buy a book from Amazon, then please use our Amazon
affiliate shop. You will still pay exactly the same amount, but
we will receive 6% of the book price (or more). We have a good range
of these schemes, so please take a look before purchasing anything
online including holidays, switching gas and electricity suppliers,
loans and so on.
Got a website?
Firstly you can help boost our profile by putting a link to this
website on any websites that you control. If you are feeling particularly
helpful and run a food or farming related site, you could include
our RSS news feed somewhere on the site.
If you have your own blog, why not mention Label My Food and any
campaigns that we launch in the future?
Social Bookmarking
Social bookmarking is becoming a large part of Internet promotion,
so if you are a member of any bookmarking networks, such as Digg,
why not click on the bookmarking icons provided with every posting
and thread on the forum? This will help to get the campaign known
in the wider world and promote any high quality articles.
